Now I'll review a movie I haven't seen
Unless there is an appeal to this movie that I somehow missed from watching the preview, Stop-Loss will probably follow in the footsteps of other anti-Iraq War films and fail. But it makes a valid point. There is a problem with stop-loss. Those who serve this country should not be forced to return to combat after their tours have ended - not when we have a volunteer army. The practice has been upheld in court, but that makes it legal - not right.

Well, I'm impressed...
Hit & Run points out that McCain is offering the right amount of help to people burned in the mortgage crisis: None.

Rush the Vote
Even if Clinton were to win the popular vote, wouldn't her win be tainted from Operation Chaos? Rush delivered Texas to Clinton and delivered up to 25 percent of the Clinton vote in Mississippi. Is that something superdelegates have to think about?

Like the Eagles said, "Get Over It"
Unlike some other conservatives, I'm not offended at the statements that Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, made from the pulpit, in part because some of them were true. Take, for example, his comment that America's "chickens came home to roost" on 9/11. If the United States had been a powerless country with no influence in the world - in other words, if it were Canada - 9/11 would not have happened. I know that some people are taking umbrage at the implication that we deserved it, but that is not what Wright said. He said that our relations with other countries had come back to haunt us - a fact that is indisputable. Jerry Falwell once said that AIDS was a divine punishment for homosexuality. Is that hate speech? I think so. Pat Robertson compared homosexuals to Satanists on an episode of the 700 Club. Is it fair to throw Falwell or Robertson overboard because of those statements? No. Those were isolated comments plucked from lifetimes of service. Likewise, it is unfair to throw Obama's pastor overboard for his own missteps because - like it or not - Reverend Wright is not the villain that YouTube made him out to be.

"You will not be bothered in Joe Clark's school."
NY Times has a piece on Billy Wolfe, a sophomore who the paper claims is mocked and harassed in his Arkansas high school to heartbreaking extremes. If accurate, the story is an outrage. It paints a dire picture of how impotent school officials have become. If I were the principal, I'd expel the kids who bother him. It would come at a steep price and a lot of school officials are afraid of parental complaints and lawsuits, but it would send a clear signal to other students that bad behavior is intolerable. Unfortunately, few principals besides Joe Clark risk their own careers to protect their students. Those worth their salt would.
